Table information
Topic: | The forest resources (FE/C1). |
Indicator: | The growing stock. |
Period: | The NFI2 survey period, between 2011 and 2014. |
Unit of measurement: | Cubic metre underbark per hectare. |
Population: | All living stems (trees) with the dbh (d13) of at least 7 cm overbark are included in the growing stock. Living windfalls reaching d13 described above are also included but stumps and standing dead stems are omitted. |
Definition: | The average growing stock (of the considered population) expressed per hectare of the productive forest area. A merchantable wood volume of a stem is calculated according to the ÚLT volume tables on the basis of the dbh (d13) and total height (h) of stems (trees) included in the calculation. The estimate of the productive forest area size is based on the belonging of the sample plot centre to the accessible, productive, forest area within the forest land category in the Czech Republic. The local density (value 1 for a productive forest area, 0 for other cases) is evaluated at the level of individual sample plots. Since 2011 (the launch of the NFI2), heights have only been measured on the second stage samplers (a subselection in the area of registered stems). On the other registered stems, heights are obtained using a height curve (d13 >> h model) specific to the woody species and the particular stand. Possible systematic height curve errors are compensated in the two-stage selection based on the principle of estimating the total error of predicted merchantable-wood volumes, which can be obtained using second-stage stems (with actually measured height). The coefficients of the conversion of the merchantable wood volume overbark to the volume underbark correspond to Decree No. 84/1996 Coll., i.e. 100/110 for conifers and 100/115 for broadleaves. Merchantable wood means all the above-ground, woody parts of a tree that reach a thickness of 7 cm overbark (the thickness is measured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the piece). Merchantable wood includes branches or their parts reaching at least a 7 cm thickness o.b. A stump (after possible felling) or a stem’s top under 7 cm o.b. is not considered to be merchantable wood. The productive forest area includes forest stands, cleared boundary lines up to 4 m, unpaved roads up to and including 4 m traffic lane width, watercourses up to 4 m in channel width, seedbeds and clearcuts belonging to the forest land category according to the FAO FRA (Forest Resource Assessment) definition. |
Area: | Accessible part of the productive forest area within the whole area of interest (geographical domain). The forest land category corresponds with the definition of FAO FRA (Forest Resource Assessment). |
Confidence interval: | The confidence interval is constructed at a 95% confidence level (significance level alpha = 0.05). |
Geographic domain type: | Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, level 0 + 1 – state.; Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, level 3 – region. |
Attribute domain: | The group of conifers or broadleaves. |
